How
to do bibliomancy? |
 |
| |
Choosing
an appropriate book |
|
| |
Start
off by using the Bible (any version) or a novel. Avoid using
magazines and books specific to a subject (e.g. motor vehicle
maintenance manual) as these don't provide proper guidance.
Indeed, some proponents argue that only a holy text should be
used. |

|
| |
Formulating
the question |
|
| |
This
is the difficult bit. Avoiding asking questions that require
a 'yes' or 'no' answer. For example, "Will I be successful
at my job interview?" The oracle cannot, and will not,
make the decision for you. If you were lucky enough to select
the right book, page and line with the word 'yes' or 'no' therein
(against astronomical odds) then the book will have decided
for you. For example, if you found 'yes' then you might get
complacent and not try your best at the interview. Whereas a
'no' may lead you to losing hope and, again, not being at your
best at the interview. Remember, you must make the decisions.
Use the book for guidance. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
It's
better to phrase the question so that the book can give you
maximum guidance. For example, "How can I make myself more
confident during job interviews?" |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Asking
the question |
|
| |
Hold
the book in your hand (or both hands) while you're asking the
question. Get the question fixed into your mind. Repeat it several
times. Repeat it out loud several times. Get the feeling that
you really want the guidance. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Choosing
the passage from the book |
|
| |
Flip
through the book and choose a page at random. Another method
is to rest the book on its spine and let it fall open. Be careful
here because if you use a book that has been well read by yourself,
you increase the chances of it falling open at one of your favourite
pages. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Having
opened the book, choose one of the two pages on which it has
opened. Having choosen a page, run your finger around the page
then stop at a random position. The chances are that you've
stopped in the middle of a paragraph so read the whole paragraph
for the guidance. In a sacred text, you'll have stopped in the
middle of a verse so read all of that for the guidance. |
