What
is aromatherapy massage? |

History |

Aromatherapy
has been in use for centuries. The ancient Egyptians used it
and we have evidence of this by finding essential oils in tombs
that have been uncovered. The founding father of aromatherapy
is said to be a chap called Renee Gatfoss. The story goes (and
this may be doubtful) is that he was making perfume in his laboratory
back in 1937, when he burned his hand badly. His reflex action
was to stick his hand into cold water but none was available
so he immersed his hand in the nearest thing - a bath of lavander
oil. Oddly, he noticed that the pain was reduced and, over the
next two weeks, the burn healed with very little scarring. So,
he began a formal study of lavander essential oils and aromatherapy
was born. |

It
just that!! When we smell nice aromas, it makes us feel good.
Some make us feel happy, others make us feel elated while others
make us feel sleepy, sexy, calm, fired up, etc. There's loads
of ways to use the essential oils. |
|
| |
>
Add them to hot water and sniff them |
|
| |
>
Put a few drops on clothes (This may remind you of Hippies or
New Age people. The oil used is, generally, patchouli) |
|
| |
>
Put a few drops into a bath of water |
|
| |
>
Use them to scent soaps and shampoo |
|
| |
>
Use them in massage. Some of the oil is absorbed through the
skin and into the bloodstream. |
|
| |
>
Use them on burns, stings and insect bites |
|
| |
>
Burn them in oil burners |
|
| |
>
Burn them on open fires |
|
| |
Any
method can be used so long as you can smell the aromas. |

I
use the oils in an aromatherapy massage. Not only do you get
the benefit of the oils but also the benefit of a relaxing massage
as well. |
