What
is Indian head massage? |
 |
|
| |
History |
|
| |
As
you might have guessed already, Indian head massage originated
from the Indian sub-continent. Even today, in India, children
are massaged from the day that they are born up to the age of
three. After that, massage reverts to once or twice a week until
the age of six. At this time, the child is trained in the art
of giving the massage as well. When the child grows up and marries,
massage is given to the partner and vice-versa. Indeed, a wife
will massage her husband until the end of his life. |

There
are also ceromonial massages. A compulsory massage is the one
before marriage. This gives the bride or bridegroom that glazed
look. It also increases strength, stamina and beauty. Another
massage is the one given to the mother who has just given birth.
This continues for at least forty days after the event. |

It
is done with or without oils and concentrates on the upper back,
shoulders, neck, scalp and face. Regular oiling of the hair
gives it a shiny lustrous look. Oils are soaked into the body
through the pores of the skin and hair follicles. |
