Reflexology
has been around for over two thousand years. An ancient tomb
painting in Quatara, Egypt shows someone performing reflexology.
The inscription
on the cartouch translates to "Physician, do not hurt me".
This is quite appropriate because reflexology is known as the
"gentle therapy".
Reflexes
in the feet
The
cornerstone of reflexology is that the whole of the body's functions
and systems are mapped out on the feet. The left hand side of
the body is
mapped on to the left foot and the right hand side of the body
is mapped on to the right foot.
Massaging
the reflexes
Massaging
the reflexes of the feet has a beneficial effect on the organ
in the body to which the reflex is mapped. For example, massaging
the shoulder
reflex will correct any problems with the shoulder. A full reflexology
treatment takes in both feet. Therefore, the whole of the body's
organs and
systems are treated.
